🟢 BFree Foodie Name:
Name: Rhi (@TheChubbyBristolian)
🟢 Age:
29 (so very nearly 30!)
🟢 City:
Bristol
🟢 Bio
I am a gluten free content creator who spends her time researching and finding the best gluten free spots in Bristol and around the South West!
🟢 Diagnosis:
Gluten Free!
In 2021/22 I was incredibly ill and just couldn’t stop getting tonsillitis and weirdly Mumps! My face kept swelling up and I was just so ill! I knew something was wrong so I went to the Doctor and they suggest cutting something out. I knew my body couldn’t stomach gluten so decided to cut it out and now eat like I’m coeliac. As soon as I knew I had to cut something out from my diet, I knew that I had to cut out gluten first as my family has a really high number of coeliacs. As soon as I cut out gluten I knew that it was the issue! Had my coeliac blood test in August 2022 which came back positive but then my biopsy came back negative. I was asked to go back for a further biopsy as it was believed I had coeliac disease but I was being sick daily so decided not to go back for it!
🟢 Favourite BFree Product:
The new soft white wraps! Or the naan breads! Both are firm favourites and I have a freezer full of both of them!
🟢 Go-to Recipe:
Has to be a double layered pizza wrap!
🟢 Passions
Omg I am so excited to have been picked to be a BFree Foodie!!😍 I started my page as soon as I went gluten free as it was such a learning process. When I was first diagnosed I had no idea about cross contamination or shared fryers or anything!!! I started my page to learn and find fun places to be able to eat in my local area. I’m a big believer that I should still live life to the fullest, even though I’ve been I can’t eat gluten. I find fun things to do, and try and find the best restaurants to eat! It’s been such a fun process and I’ve met so many friends and have had so many lovely opportunities since starting my page, and I can’t wait to continue!
🟢 We see you had a gluten free party recently! How did you navigate this whilst being gluten free?
Yes! I celebrated my 30th early and had the best evening! I was very lucky as I organised the whole thing so I could make sure there was plenty of allowances made for gluten free! I ensured there were gluten free drinks available and I had a food truck that served only gluten free food! Big shoutout to The Fish Truck who came along! Chris (the owner) owns Farrows fish and chips who do the most fabulous fish and chips in Bristol with loads of gluten free (coeliac safe) options. 😍 I chose somewhere that was really tasty but offered 100% gluten free food as I have a large number of coeliac family members so wanted to ensure everyone was as safe as possible. So many people came and told me how good the fish and chips were, even people who weren’t gluten free!
I also chose a gluten free cake from the fabulous Gluten for Punishment in Bristol who is a small local business. Amy is fantastic and helped me every step of the way with designing and making the most gorgeous gf cake 😍 I ensured that I was really organised with it as I really didn’t want to accidentally eat gluten at my party, and had the best night because of it!😍
🟢 Favourite GF Restaurant:
My favourite local restaurant is The Malago in Bedminster, Bristol. The fish and chips are out of this world!! My favourite chain has to be Honest Burger!
🟢 Best Life Tip:
Don’t stop living life, just because of your diagnosis! Also, never be too afraid to ask questions and make sure you feel completely comfortable before eating something! Your friends will support you every step of the way and will go to restaurants that cater for all! Also, always pack a snack just in case!
